Rhododendron 'Catawbiense Grandiflorum thrives in acidic, organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils in partial shade. Poor drainage leads to root rot. It loves morning sun, but needs some shade in the afternoon. It is tolerant of sun and almost full shade. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered from strong winds. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require much pruning. Susceptible to many insect and disease problems.
