Weigelia Red Newport is a large, vigorous, bushy, upright to spreading, deciduous shrub with oval, dark green leaves and masses of large, funnel-shaped, deep crimson red flowers with yellow anthers blooming in spring and early summer. Weigelia Red Newport is a fast-growing and resilient plant that requires very little care. It can adapt to a wide range of soil conditions, but prefers fertile, slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun, but can grow well and bloom in partial shade, even full shade. It is tolerant of frost, wind, exposure and mild drought. It may need to be sheltered from spring frosts. Doesn’t have any serious pest or disease problems. Low maintenance, doesn’t require regular pruning. Tolerates hard pruning. Weigelia Red Newport with its gorgeous red flowers suitable for cottage, wildlife, and urban gardens. Perfect for patio pots and containers. Excellent for beds and borders, shrub borders, banks and slopes and informal, low hedges.
