Amelanchier lamarckii, commonly known as Snowy Mespilus or Juneberry, is a deciduous multistem tree. The foliage emerges bronze-tinted in spring, maturing to mid-green through summer, before turning striking shades of orange and red in autumn. As a multistem specimen, it develops an open, airy structure with several trunks rising from the base, creating a light canopy that suits smaller gardens where a single large tree would be unsuitable. In spring, the tree is covered with masses of star-shaped white flowers, appearing before or alongside the emerging bronze leaves, giving a delicate, cloud-like display. These are followed in summer by small purple-black berries, which are edible and have a sweet, blueberry-like flavour. The combination of spring blossom and autumn foliage colour makes this tree attractive across multiple seasons. The flowers provide an early source of nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinating insects, while the berries are a valuable food source for birds throughout summer. This makes it a useful addition for gardens aiming to support local wildlife. Amelanchier lamarckii tolerates a range of soil types, including slightly acidic to neutral conditions, and performs well in both sun and partial shade, making it a versatile choice for many garden settings.
