Kalmia Lattifolia is an exceptional, medium-sized, bushy, evergreen shrub or small tree with oval, leathery, glossy, light green to dark green to purple leaves. It blooms abundantly for several weeks in May and June. Beautiful, bell-shaped, white to pink flowers with purple markings inside, open from deep pink buds and appear in flat-topped clusters. Flowers are followed by reddish-brown fruit. Kalmia Lattifolia prefers fertile, neutral to slightly acidic, moist and well-drained soils, but is adaptable and can grow in sandy, rocky, or shallow soils. It thrives in partial shade, but tolerates full sun and full shade. Once established, it is resistant to drought. It is extremely hardy and can withstand very low temperatures. Low maintenance plant.
