Variegated Spanish Dagger is an evergreen architectural shrub forming a bold rosette of stiff, sword-shaped leaves. The foliage is the standout feature, each leaf edged with creamy-yellow variegation that fades to pink or reddish tones in cold weather, with a sharp terminal spine. Over time the plant develops a woody trunk, sometimes branching, giving it a sculptural, structural presence in the garden. Growth is slow, producing a dense, symmetrical rosette habit that works well as a specimen plant or focal point. During mid to late summer, mature plants send up a tall, sturdy flower spike bearing large numbers of bell-shaped, creamy-white blooms, often tinged with purple at the base. These flowers create a striking contrast against the variegated foliage and add considerable architectural interest during the flowering season. This plant is particularly well suited to coastal gardens, tolerating salt-laden winds and sandy, free-draining soils with ease. It also performs well in hot, dry, sunny positions and is useful for adding a Mediterranean or exotic character to borders, gravel gardens or containers. It requires minimal maintenance once established and resists drought effectively.

Cherry Laurel 'Rotundifolia' is a vigorous, evergreen shrub with large, glossy, dark green leaves that are broad and rounded, giving the plant a bold, leathery appearance year-round. It forms a dense, robust shape, making it a popular choice for hedging, screening and boundary planting where quick coverage and privacy are required. Its thick foliage provides strong structure throughout the year, retaining its colour and density even in winter months. In spring, the shrub produces upright spikes of small, creamy-white flowers that stand out attractively against the dark foliage, adding seasonal interest to an otherwise foliage-focused plant. These flowers are followed by small, cherry-like fruits that ripen to a dark red or black colour later in the year. The flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, while the dense evergreen growth offers shelter and nesting opportunities for birds throughout the year. The fruits can also provide a food source for various birds once ripened. This cultivar is particularly well-suited to forming hedges or screens in a range of soil types, including clay, and tolerates both sun and shade, making it a versatile option for many garden settings, including areas with poor light or exposed boundaries.

Dwarf Black Pine is an evergreen conifer with a compact, bushy habit, making it well suited to smaller gardens, rockeries and container planting. It forms a dense, rounded mound of foliage, with short, stiff, dark green needles arranged in pairs along the stems. Growth is slow, resulting in a tight, cushion-like shape that requires little to no pruning to maintain its neat form. The dark green needles provide year-round structure and colour, giving consistent interest through every season rather than a single period of peak display. In winter, small reddish-brown buds are visible at the tips of the shoots, adding subtle textural interest against the deep green foliage. This plant tolerates a wide range of soil types, including poor, dry or chalky soils, and is particularly tolerant of coastal conditions, including exposure to wind and salt spray. It is also a good choice for sites with heavy clay, provided drainage is reasonable, and performs well in full sun. Its dense, low-growing habit offers some shelter value for ground-dwelling insects and small wildlife, while the evergreen foliage provides year-round cover. Dwarf Black Pine is a reliable, low-maintenance choice for structural planting, dwarf conifer collections, or as a specimen in a border.

Western Red Cedar 'Atrovirens' is an evergreen conifer with a naturally bushy, dense habit, making it a popular choice for hedging and screening. The foliage consists of flattened, scale-like sprays in rich glossy green, which retain their colour well throughout the winter months, unlike many other conifer varieties that can turn bronze or yellow in cold weather. When crushed, the foliage releases a distinctive, pleasant aroma reminiscent of pineapple. The growth habit is compact and uniform, forming a dense screen from ground level upwards, which makes it particularly effective for privacy hedging and windbreaks. It responds well to clipping and shaping, maintaining a neat, formal appearance when trimmed regularly, or can be left to grow into a more natural, pyramidal form. This variety provides year-round structure and interest in the garden, offering consistent colour and coverage regardless of season. It is tolerant of a wide range of soil types, including clay, and copes well with both sun and partial shade. It also withstands exposed and windy sites, making it suitable for coastal gardens as well as inland locations. Its dense foliage offers shelter and nesting opportunities for birds, contributing useful habitat value within garden settings, particularly when grown as a hedge or screen.

Nandina 'Obsessed' is an evergreen shrub grown chiefly for its compact, dense habit and vivid foliage colour. The narrow, lance-shaped leaflets emerge bright red in spring, maturing to deep green through summer before intensifying again to rich crimson and burgundy tones in autumn and winter, giving the plant strong seasonal interest for most of the year. Its tight, upright growth forms a neat mound, making it useful as a low hedge, border edging, or structural accent in mixed planting schemes without need for heavy pruning. Small clusters of white flowers may appear in late spring to early summer, though they are modest and not the plant's main attraction. This cultivar is a more compact, slower-growing form than the species, reaching a smaller mature size, which suits it well to container growing, small gardens, or tight spaces where a full-sized Nandina would be unsuitable. It tolerates a range of soil types, including clay, provided drainage is adequate, and performs well in both full sun and partial shade, with the best foliage colour developing in brighter positions. It is a hardy, low-maintenance choice for year-round colour and structure.
