Spotted Laurel 'Mr Goldstrike' is an evergreen shrub with a dense, rounded, bushy habit. Its foliage is the standout feature, with broad, glossy dark green leaves heavily splashed and speckled with vivid golden-yellow markings, providing strong colour and interest throughout the year. The variegation is particularly bright and bold, making this cultivar useful for lifting shaded areas of the garden. Small, inconspicuous purplish-red flowers appear in spring, followed on female plants by red berries in autumn and winter where a male pollinator is present. These are not the main ornamental feature of the plant, with the foliage remaining the primary point of interest across all seasons. This shrub is tolerant of deep shade and dry conditions, making it well suited to planting beneath trees or in north-facing borders where many other plants struggle. It also copes well with urban pollution and coastal exposure, and is tolerant of a wide range of soil types including clay. Its dense growth habit makes it useful for low-maintenance hedging, screening or as a structural specimen shrub, and it responds well to pruning to maintain a compact shape.
