Callistemon citrinus, commonly known as the Crimson Bottlebrush, is an evergreen tree trained here as a full standard, forming a neat, lollipop-shaped specimen with a clear stem and rounded head of foliage. The leaves are narrow, lance-shaped and aromatic when crushed, releasing a lemon scent, with bronze-red new growth that matures to grey-green. The tree produces striking cylindrical, brush-like flowers in vivid red, resembling a bottlebrush, from late spring through summer. These blooms stand out against the foliage and bring strong seasonal interest to the garden during the warmer months. The flowers are rich in nectar and are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, making this tree a valuable addition for supporting garden wildlife. Birds may also be drawn to the tree, particularly when in flower. This variety is well suited to sheltered, sunny positions and performs best in free-draining soil. It shows good tolerance of coastal conditions, making it a suitable choice for gardens exposed to salt-laden winds. As a standard form, it works well as a specimen tree, providing structure and a focal point within borders, patios or courtyard gardens.
