Cedrus libani, commonly known as the Cedar of Lebanon, is a large, evergreen coniferous tree that belongs to the Pinaceae family. The tree is native to the Eastern Mediterranean region and is particularly found in Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, where it is considered the national emblem. It can grow up to 40 meters tall, with a broad, pyramidal or umbrella-shaped crown, and a diameter of up to 2 meters at the base. The bark of the Cedar of Lebanon is grayish-brown, rough, and deeply fissured, and its leaves are arranged in spirals and appear needle-like, ranging from 2-4 cm in length. The tree produces small, brown cones that measure around 8-12 cm in length, which contain numerous winged seeds. The Cedar of Lebanon has significant cultural and historical significance, dating back to ancient times. The wood of the tree was used for building temples, palaces, and ships, and the resin was used for medicinal purposes. The tree also features in religious texts, including the Bible and the Quran, where it is described as a symbol of strength, beauty, and longevity.
