Clematis Armandii 'Snowdrift' is an evergreen climber, trained on canes, valued for its vigorous twining habit and dense covering of glossy, leathery, dark green leaflets that remain attractive throughout the year. In early spring, usually March to April, it produces an abundance of pure white, star-shaped, fragrant flowers that cover the foliage in a striking display. The scent and flower display make it particularly attractive during this period, with the blooms attracting early pollinating insects such as bees. Its dense evergreen growth also provides shelter for small garden wildlife throughout the year. This climber is well suited to training against a warm, sheltered wall or fence, where it benefits from protection from cold winds, and performs best in a position with its roots shaded and its top growth reaching towards the sun. It is tolerant of a range of soil types, including loamy and clay soils, provided drainage is adequate. Due to its vigorous nature, it is suited to larger spaces where it can be allowed to spread and climb freely, making it a useful choice for covering pergolas, trellises, or boundary structures with year-round foliage interest and a strong seasonal floral display.
