Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' is an evergreen shrub with a bushy, compact growth habit, forming a dense mound of rounded shape. Its foliage is the standout feature, with small, rounded green leaves edged in creamy white, taking on a pink tinge during colder months, providing colour and interest throughout the year. The variegated leaves brighten shady corners and remain attractive across all seasons, including winter when many other plants lose their visual appeal. This shrub produces small greenish-white flowers in early summer, though these are inconspicuous and not a significant feature. Occasionally small pinkish-orange fruits follow, but these are also minor in visual impact. Euonymus 'Emerald Gaiety' is a versatile shrub well suited to a range of garden situations, including shady spots beneath trees or against north-facing walls where its variegated foliage helps lighten darker areas. It tolerates a wide range of soil types, including clay, and copes well with coastal exposure, making it a reliable choice for gardens exposed to salt-laden winds. It can be grown as a free-standing shrub, low hedge, or trained against a wall or fence, offering flexibility for different garden designs. Its dense growth also provides shelter for small garden wildlife.
