Fargesia robusta 'Wenchuan' is a tough, vigorous, clump-forming, evergreen bamboo. Compared with other cultivars, it has more arching form and more open habit. Its blue-green canes are pale as it matures and have reddish-brown sheaths. The leaves are large, narrow, long, green, blue-green underneath. Fargesia robusta 'Wenchuan' can adapt to any type of soil, but grows best in fertile, organically rich, slightly acidic, moisture retentive soils. It doesn’t like too wet or too dry soils. It thrives in partial shade. In full sun, it appreciates some afternoon shade. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered form harsh winds. It prefers cool summer climates. Virtually pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance, but it can be invasive. Wenchuan’ Clumping Bamboo is a wonderful, exotic plant with large, tropical looking leaves, beautiful as a specimen or accent plant. Excellent for growing in containers on patios and roof gardens. Great in beds and borders and for informal hedges and screens.
