Hamamelis × intermedia 'Diane' is a large, winter-flowering, deciduous shrub with a spreading habit and broad, open crown. Its oval, green leaves turn yellow, orange and red in autumn. Very unusual, slightly scented, copper-red flowers with four, narrow, ribbon-like petals bloom from January to March before the leaves emerge. Fruits often appear at the same time. Hamamelis × intermedia 'Diane' thrives in average, organically rich, slightly acidic, medium moist, well-drained soils, in full sun or partial shade. Best flowering is achieved when grown in full sun. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require regular pruning. Hamamelis × intermedia 'Diane' is a hybrid between Japanese witch hazel (H. japonica) and Chinese witch hazel (H. mollis). It’s an excellent winter-flowering shrub that brings colour to winter landscapes. Autumn leaves are also very attractive. It is great for shrub borders and woodland gardens, informal hedges and screens, or as a specimen plant.
