Attractive to bees and butterflies. Hibiscus syriacus 'Speciosus' thrives in fertile, organically rich, neutral, moist, well-drained soils in warm, sunny locations. It needs long, hot summers to flower well. Once established, resistant to drought. Very tough plant, tolerant of heat, humidity, coastal conditions and urban pollution. Resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh winds. It has no serious pest or disease problems. Low maintenance plant, requires minimal or no pruning.
