Limelight Hydrangea is a deciduous shrub with a rounded, bushy habit and sturdy upright stems that hold their shape well without staking. The foliage consists of broad, dark green leaves that turn shades of burgundy and purple in autumn, adding seasonal interest beyond the flowering period. This shrub produces large, dense conical flower panicles from mid to late summer, opening in a fresh lime-green colour before gradually maturing to creamy white and then taking on soft pink tones as autumn approaches. The flowers are held on strong stems and remain attractive well into the colder months, often persisting as dried blooms if left uncut. This extended flowering display makes it a strong performer for summer and autumn colour in the garden. The blooms attract bees and other pollinating insects during the flowering season, providing a useful nectar source at a time when many other plants have finished flowering. Limelight Hydrangea grows well in a range of soil types, including clay and loamy soils, provided drainage is reasonable. It performs best in partial shade but will tolerate full sun in cooler climates if the soil remains consistently moist. It is a versatile choice for mixed borders, informal hedging, or as a specimen shrub in both traditional and contemporary garden settings.
