Hydrangea paniculata 'Polar Bear' is a vigorous, bushy, compact, spreading, deciduous shrub with sturdy, upright stems, oval, pointed, deep green leaves, and large, conical flower panicles, lime green when young, creamy-white to pale pink when they mature, blooming in summer and early autumn. Hydrangea paniculata 'Polar Bear' will adapt to a wide range of soils, but prefers humus-rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Once established, tolerant to drought. It thrives in full sun with some afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Very resistant to frost, one of the most winter hardy hydrangeas. Tolerant of urban pollution. It can withstand heat, humidity and sea salt, therefore suitable for coastal areas. Low maintenance plant, requires minimal pruning. 'Polar Bear' Hydrangea is a beautiful, long-flowering, long-lived shrub, very easy to grow and maintain. It looks great in any garden – cottage, urban, coastal, or woodland. Excellent as an accent plant or planted in groups against fences and walls. Great for hedges and screens.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
