Hypericum 'Hidcote' is a semi-evergreen shrub, retaining much of its foliage through mild winters. It forms a dense, rounded, bushy mound with an even, compact habit, making it useful for informal borders or low hedging. The foliage is a fresh mid-green, providing a good backdrop throughout the growing season. From midsummer into early autumn, the shrub produces an abundance of large, saucer-shaped golden-yellow flowers with prominent tufts of stamens at their centres, giving them a distinctive bottlebrush-like appearance. This extended flowering period makes it a valuable plant for sustained colour in the garden during the summer months, when many other shrubs have finished blooming. The flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, offering a useful nectar source during the summer season. This makes it a beneficial addition to gardens aiming to support local pollinator populations. This shrub is tolerant of a wide range of soil types, including clay, and adapts well to both sunny and partially shaded positions. It is also reasonably resilient in exposed or coastal conditions, making it a versatile choice for various garden settings. Its dense growth habit and manageable size make it suitable for smaller gardens as well as larger mixed borders.
