Magnolia grandiflora 'Ferruginea' is a small, evergreen tree of compact, conical to rounded habit, with attractive, ovate, glossy, deep-green leaves, copper-red underneath. Beautiful, fragrant, large, goblet-shaped, creamy-white flowers with a nice, citrus fragrance bloom from June to September. Each flower blooms for one or two days, but the flowering is abundant. Magnolia grandiflora 'Ferruginea' is easily grown in a wide range of soils, but prefers light, fertile, slightly acidic, moist, and well-drained soils. Once established, it can withstand some drought. It thrives in full sun and partial shade. It has very good cold tolerance, but needs to be sheltered from harsh, dry winds. Low maintenance, it doesn’t require much pruning. Magnolia grandiflora 'Ferruginea' is an excellent ornamental tree, perfect as a specimen plant or a small shade tree. Great for informal, cottage, woodland, and urban gardens. Excellent for beds and borders, informal hedges and screens, and for growing in containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
