Magnolia 'Sweet Valentine' is a vase-shaped, upright-spreading, deciduous shrub or small tree with medium, leathery, obovate, mid-green to dark-green leaves, golden-yellow to brown in autumn. Gorgeous, tulip-shaped, wide at the bottom, rich red-purple flowers, pale pink to white from the inside, bloom in spring. Magnolia 'Sweet Valentine' grows best in fertile, rich, slightly acidic, moist, but well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun and partial shade. Once established, it can withstand some drought. Roots are easily damaged, therefore, should not be disturbed. It is resistant to frost, but needs to be protected from strong winds. Flower buds may be damaged by late frost. Low maintenance plant. Magnolia 'Sweet Valentine' is a cross between M. 'Sweet Simplicity' x M. 'Black Tulip'. It’s a neat and compact, attractive flowering shrub, perfect for small informal, cottage, urban or woodland gardens. It is great as a specimen plant and for informal hedges and screens, excellent for lawns, foundations, and shrub borders.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
