Malus x purpurea ‘Crimson Cascade’ is a small, compact, ornamental, deciduous tree with elegant, pendulous, cascading branches, almost reaching the ground. Young leaves are purplish-green and gradually turn bronze-green in summer and autumn. Vibrant, scented, single and semi-double, cup-shaped, crimson flowers bloom in spring and are followed by small, round, dark-purple fruits in autumn. Attractive to birds and bees. Malus x purpurea ‘Crimson Cascade’ grows best in fertile, deep, loamy, moist, and well-drained soils, but tolerates many different soil types, except too wet. It thrives in full sun and partial shade. Resistant to frost and urban pollution. Low maintenance, doesn’t require much pruning. A self-fertile plant that can be used as a pollinator for other fruit trees. Purple Crab Apple 'Crimson Cascade' is a lovely, ornamental tree with stunning colours, perfect for small informal, cottage, wildlife, and urban gardens. Great as a specimen plant, in shrub borders, or as an informal hedge or screen.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
