Mexican Grass Tree is an evergreen architectural plant forming a dense, symmetrical rosette of narrow, rigid, grass-like leaves that arch gracefully from a central point. The slender leaves have finely toothed edges and a blue-green colouring, creating a striking fountain-like structure that provides year-round visual interest in the garden. As the plant matures, it develops a thick, trunk-like base covered in old leaf remnants, giving it a distinctive sculptural appearance that becomes more pronounced with age. This trunk formation adds textural contrast and a bold architectural statement to planting schemes. Mature specimens may produce tall flower spikes bearing small cream or white flowers, rising well above the foliage during summer months, though flowering is infrequent and typically occurs only on well-established plants.
