Miscanthus sinensis 'Kleine Silberspinne' is a compact ornamental grass that is highly valued for its stunning foliage and delicate appearance. It is a cultivar of Miscanthus sinensis, commonly known as maiden grass or Chinese silver grass, and is native to Asia. This particular cultivar was developed in Germany and is also known as 'Little Silver Spider'. 'Kleine Silberspinne' grows in a clumping habit and reaches a height of 2 to 3 feet, with a spread of about 2 feet. Its narrow leaves are about 1/4 inch wide and have a silvery-green color that shimmers in the sunlight. In the fall, the leaves turn a warm coppery-orange color before fading to tan for winter. The plant blooms in late summer to early fall, producing attractive reddish-brown plumes that rise above the foliage. These plumes can persist well into winter, adding interest and texture to the landscape. 'Kleine Silberspinne' is a low-maintenance plant that thrives in full sun to partial shade and is adaptable to a wide range of soils. It is drought-tolerant and deer-resistant, making it an ideal choice for many gardeners.
