Phormium tenax, or New Zealand Flax, is a robust, clump-forming, evergreen perennial with leathery, slightly arching, strap-shaped, from grey-green and bronze to chocolate brown leaves. Tubular, pink, orange, red or purple flowers appear sparsely on upright stems and bloom in summer. New Zealand flax thrives in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils, in full sun to partial shade, but can grow in a wide range of soils, even poor ones, except wet or waterlogged. It is tolerant of salt and drought, therefore, perfect for coastal areas. It can withstand some cold, but frost can damage the foliage. It needs to be sheltered from harsh winter winds. Old and discoloured leaves should be removed to keep the plant tidy. Generally, disease-free. Phormium tenax, with its attractive foliage, is a stunning ornamental plant with a number of cultivars, perfect as a specimen or accent plant in coastal, Mediterranean, rock and gravel, and urban gardens. Ideal for mass planting. Great for beds and borders and for growing in containers.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
