Pieris japonica 'Little Heath' is a small, slow-growing, evergreen shrub of compact, rounded habit. Oval, glossy, variegated leaves are coral-red when young and grey-green with irregular silvery-white margins when mature. Clusters of lovely, fragrant, small, bell-shaped, creamy-white flowers, resembling Lily-of-the-Valley, open from pink buds and bloom in March and April. Pieris japonica 'Little Heath' prefers moderately fertile, hummus-rich, acidic, well-drained soils. It doesn’t tolerate soggy soils. It thrives in full sun and partial shade. Once established, somewhat resistant to drought. It is tolerant of frost, but needs to be sheltered form harsh, winter winds. Generally, pest-free. Low maintenance plant. Pieris 'Little Heath' is an exceptional dwarf shrub, attractive all year round, and perfect for growing in pots and containers. Great as a foundation plant, in beds and borders, and banks and slopes in informal, cottage, woodland, and urban gardens. Excellent for acidic soils beneath conifers and hardwoods.
