Pittosporum ‘Irene Paterson’ is a slow-growing, rounded, mound-forming, evergreen shrub with black twigs and unusual, wavy-margined, leathery, white leaves that turn greener when older, and are flushed pink in winter. Small, discrete, but very fragrant dark-purple, bell-shaped flowers bloom in late spring and summer. Pittosporum ‘Irene Paterson’ can grow in a wider range of soils, but prefers fertile, light, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. It is resistant to sea-salt and coastal conditions, but it prefers to be slightly back from the sea. It can withstand frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh and drying winter winds in colder climates. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning. Pittosporum ‘Irene Paterson’, with its silvery, variegated leaves and lovely scent is an attractive plant ideal for coastal areas, but also suitable for cottage and urban gardens. Excellent for informal hedges and screens, for shrub borders, and wall-side borders. Great for growing in pots and containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
