Ribes sanguineum, commonly known as flowering currant, is an excellent addition to gardens due to its ornamental value and wildlife benefits. This deciduous shrub thrives in well-drained soils and sunny to partially shaded locations, making it versatile for a variety of garden settings. It typically grows to around 1.5–2 meters in height and spread, forming a bushy shape that fits well into borders, woodland gardens, or as part of a mixed hedge.

In early to mid-spring, it produces striking clusters of pink to deep red flowers that are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. These are followed by small, dark purple berries that birds enjoy.

Ribes sanguineum is relatively low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and resistant to many pests and diseases. It adds early-season color and interest to gardens and provides valuable nectar when few other plants are in bloom, making it a great choice for wildlife-friendly landscapes.
