Salix purpurea 'Pendula' is a small, compact, deciduous tree of weeping habit, with slender, arching purple stems covered with narrow, lance-shaped, dark blue-green leaves. Attractive, silvery-grey catkins emerge in spring along the leaves. Elegant and attractive ornamental tree. Salix purpurea 'Pendula' thrives in damp spots in full sun and enjoys being planted near water. It is adaptable to a wide range of soils, except shallow and chalky. It grows well in both moist but well-drained and poorly drained soils. It is resistant to frost but needs to be sheltered from harsh winds. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require much pruning. Adaptable to coastal conditions. Weeping Purple Willow is a lovely, decorative tree that creates a wonderful display all year round. Perfect as a specimen or accent plant in small cottage, urban, wildlife and coastal gardens. Great for beds and borders, hedges and screens, and suitable for growing in containers.

Arundel Arboretum is a shrub and tree retail nursery with over 40 years of experience.

About Us

During this time, we have developed a large stock of trees, mature evergreen shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, cedars and olives. What sets us apart from a generic garden center is solid unwavering focus on trees and some bigger shrubs. You will find thousands of trees, hundreds of varieties and lots of experts who are working on the nursery and more than willing to help you to choose a plant for you.

What you will not find is hot tubs, garden furniture and plastic garden gnomes. In a nutshell, trees is what we know and trees is what we do, and only trees (and some shrubs to go with the trees).
