Spiraea Nipponica ‘Snowmound’ is a compact, dense, upright, spreading, deciduous shrub with elegant, arching branches, narrow, dark blue-green leaves, golden yellow in autumn, and profusion of rounded clusters of small, 5-petal, snowy white flowers blooming in spring and early summer. Attractive to bees and butterflies. Spiraea Nipponica ‘Snowmound’ grow best in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils, but is tolerant of most soil conditions, except extreme ones. It thrives in full sun, but appreciates some afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Tough and easy to grow. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. If overgrown, it may require hard pruning which is best to do after flowering. Tosa spiraea 'Snowmound', with its spectacular snow-white blossoms resembling mounds of snow, is an excellent decorative plant for mixed and shrub borders or for a taller ground cover. Great for foundation plantings, banks and slopes for erosion control, and informal hedges and screens.
