Syringa ‘Red Pixie’ is a dwarf, compact, spreading, long-flowering, deciduous shrub, with small, broadly elliptic, bright green to glossy dark green leaves. Clusters of small, fragrant, trumpet-shaped, deep pink flowers, opening from red buds and fading to pale pink, bloom in late spring and then again in summer and early autumn. Lilac ‘Red Pixie’ thrives in average, fertile, humus-rich, alkaline to neutral, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. It is tolerant of heat, drought, and light shade, but best flowering is achieved in full sun. It prefers cold winter climates because it needs winter chill for the buds to mature. Very resistant to frost, but late frosts may damage the flower buds. Tolerant of urban conditions. Generally, pest-free and disease-free. Low maintenance plant.
