Unit price perJuglans nigra, commonly known as the black walnut, is a large deciduous tree native to North America, particularly found in the eastern and central United States. It belongs to the Juglandaceae family, which also includes other walnut and hickory species. The tree is well known for its rich, dark brown to black heartwood, prized for its beauty, durability, and workability in furniture making and cabinetry.
The black walnut tree can grow to impressive heights, often reaching 30 to 40 metres tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 metres. The bark is deeply furrowed, dark grey to almost black, and has a rugged texture. Its compound leaves are pinnate, usually comprising 15 to 23 leaflets that are finely toothed and emit a distinctive aromatic scent when crushed. These leaves turn a golden yellow in the autumn.
One of the most notable features of Juglans nigra is its edible nut, enclosed in a thick, greenish-brown husk that eventually turns black as it matures. The nuts are difficult to crack but are highly valued for their rich flavour, commonly used in baking and cooking. Wildlife, including squirrels and birds, also consume the nuts, making the tree an important source of food in its ecosystem.

Unit price perWisteria x valderi 'Eranthema - Cane - Height 150-200cm - 3lt
£61.00
Unit price perWisteria × valderi ‘Eranthema’ is an elegant and distinctive deciduous climber, valued for its refined flowers, gentle fragrance, and manageable habit. A hybrid between Wisteria floribunda and Wisteria sinensis, it combines the best qualities of both parents, offering reliable flowering with a slightly less vigorous growth rate than many traditional wisterias.
In spring, soft green, pinnate leaves emerge, typically made up of 11–15 oval leaflets. The foliage unfurls alongside the flowers, creating a balanced and attractive display rather than leaving the blooms exposed on bare stems. As the season progresses, the leaves deepen in colour and form a dense canopy that provides shade and interest through the summer months.
Flowering usually takes place in late spring, most often in May in the UK. The flowers are borne in medium-length, pendulous racemes, generally around 20–30 cm long. Each pea-like bloom is a rich violet to blue-purple, often highlighted with a pale yellow or creamy marking at the centre. The flowers are sweetly scented, though more delicately perfumed than some other cultivars, making them particularly pleasant in sheltered garden settings.
‘Eranthema’ is a twining climber that can reach approximately 7–9 metres in height when mature. It twines clockwise and requires strong, permanent support such as a pergola, arbour, or substantial wall framework. Regular pruning in summer and winter helps to control its size and encourages the formation of flowering spurs.
This cultivar thrives in full sun, where flowering is most abundant, but it will tolerate light shade. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil and benefits from a sheltered position. Fully hardy across most of the UK, Wisteria × valderi ‘Eranthema’ is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a classic wisteria with dependable performance, elegant flowers, and a slightly more restrained habit.

Unit price perMorus nigra trained as a mature four-branched espalier is an outstanding choice for gardens where space, productivity, and ornamental structure are important. Its carefully trained horizontal framework creates a formal architectural feature that looks superb against sunny walls, fences, or boundary lines. This elegant form allows gardeners to enjoy a traditionally broad-growing mulberry in a far smaller footprint, making it especially suitable for compact gardens, courtyards, and kitchen garden settings.
The tree carries attractive heart-shaped leaves that provide fresh summer greenery, while its rich purple-black fruits ripen in late summer. These sweet, aromatic berries are highly prized for fresh eating, preserves, and culinary use. In autumn, the foliage may develop warm seasonal tones before leaf fall, while the bare branch structure adds winter interest.
Morus nigra thrives best in a warm, sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil. A south or west-facing wall is ideal, helping fruit ripen fully and protecting young growth from colder weather. Once established, it is hardy and long-lived, requiring only periodic pruning to maintain its espalier shape and encourage fruiting wood.
Perfect for decorative edible gardens, formal layouts, and smaller spaces, this mature espalier mulberry offers beauty, character, and generous harvests for many years.
