Yucca rostrata, commonly known as the Beaked Yucca, is an evergreen architectural plant prized for its striking symmetrical form. Grown here as a clear stem specimen, it produces a dense, rounded crown of narrow, rigid blue-grey leaves arranged in a spherical rosette atop a slender, upright trunk. The foliage holds its silvery-blue colouring throughout the year, providing consistent visual interest across all seasons rather than peaking at a particular time. As the plant matures, older leaves beneath the crown turn brown and droop downward, forming a skirt-like thatch around the stem if left untrimmed, though this is often removed to maintain the clean, clear stem appearance popular in contemporary and Mediterranean-style planting schemes. Mature specimens may produce tall flower spikes bearing clusters of creamy-white, bell-shaped blooms, typically appearing in summer, adding a dramatic vertical accent above the foliage. This Yucca is highly drought-tolerant once established and performs best in free-draining soil and full sun, making it particularly well suited to coastal gardens, gravel schemes, and exposed or arid sites where many other plants would struggle. Its tolerance of poor, sandy soils and salt-laden winds makes it an excellent choice for seaside planting, as well as contemporary urban gardens seeking structural, low-maintenance greenery.

Yucca rostrata, commonly known as the Beaked Yucca, is an evergreen architectural plant prized for its striking clear stem form. It produces dense, rounded heads of narrow, rigid, blue-grey foliage that radiate symmetrically from the crown, creating a distinctive spherical silhouette atop a slender, textured trunk. The clear stem reveals a trunk clothed in persistent dried leaves lower down, or a smooth, fibrous surface where these have been removed, adding sculptural interest throughout the year. As a slow-growing, long-lived plant, the Beaked Yucca maintains its structural presence across all seasons, making it a focal point in Mediterranean-style planting schemes year-round. Mature specimens may produce tall flower spikes bearing clusters of creamy-white, bell-shaped blooms during summer, rising dramatically above the foliage heads. This plant is particularly well-suited to coastal gardens, tolerating salt-laden winds and sandy, free-draining soils. It thrives in full sun and requires sharp drainage, making it ideal for gravel gardens, raised beds, or containers where waterlogging can be avoided. Its drought tolerance once established makes it a practical choice for low-maintenance, water-wise planting schemes, bringing a bold, exotic character to borders, courtyards, and architectural garden designs.

As a full standard, it works well as a specimen tree, providing structure and colour at height rather than as ground-level cover. In late spring it can produce small white flowers in clusters, followed occasionally by small red berries, though these are of minor ornamental significance compared with the foliage colour. The tree tolerates a range of soil types, including clay and loamy soils, and performs well in both sun and partial shade. It is also reasonably tolerant of exposed or coastal positions, making it a versatile choice for gardens seeking year-round structure and seasonal colour interest without the need for a flowering display.

Cut-leaved Alder is a deciduous tree, supplied here as a feathered specimen with branches retained down to ground level, giving it a full, upright structure from an early stage. The foliage is particularly notable, with deeply cut, feathery leaves that are a soft, delicate green, offering a much lighter and more refined appearance than the species. This finely dissected leaf form sets it apart from ordinary alders and gives the tree an airy, graceful texture throughout the growing season. In late winter and early spring, before the leaves emerge, the tree produces attractive purplish-brown catkins, which hang from the bare branches and add seasonal interest ahead of leaf break. As the foliage develops through spring and summer, the canopy takes on a soft, lacy quality that distinguishes it from other ornamental trees. This tree copes particularly well with wet or waterlogged ground, making it a good choice for planting in damp gardens, near ponds or streams, or on heavier clay soils where many other trees struggle. It also tolerates a range of other conditions, including exposed sites. The catkins and seeds provide a food source for birds and insects, and alders are known to support a range of wildlife through the seasons, contributing positively to garden biodiversity.

The half standard form gives a neat, lollipop-like shape, making it useful as a specimen tree where a defined structure and height are wanted. The dense head of foliage provides good year-round screening and structure in a garden setting. Small white flowers may appear in late spring, held in clusters above the foliage, though the tree is primarily grown for its foliage colour rather than its blooms. Photinia Red Robin tolerates a range of soil types, including clay, and performs well in most well-drained garden soils. It is suited to sunny or lightly shaded positions and benefits from a sheltered spot in colder areas to protect the young red growth from frost damage.

Leucothoe Zeblid, commonly known as Rainbow Fetterbush or Scarletta, is an evergreen shrub prized for its striking foliage. This tree is particularly attractive in autumn, when clusters of small, white or pale pink, urn-shaped flowers appear alongside the previous year's fruit, creating an unusual display of blooms and ripening strawberry-like fruits at the same time. The rounded, red-orange fruits are edible, though somewhat bland in flavour, and add ornamental value into the colder months. The flowers provide a valuable late-season source of nectar for bees and other pollinators when little else is in bloom, while the fruits are attractive to birds. The peeling, reddish-brown bark of mature specimens adds further seasonal interest, particularly through autumn and winter. Arbutus unedo is tolerant of coastal exposure and thrives in a range of soil types, including poor, dry or alkaline soils, making it a versatile choice for gardens with challenging conditions. It is also well suited to sheltered or exposed sites and copes well with salt-laden winds in coastal locations.
