Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Stevens Island’ is an ornamental, dense, compact, conical, evergreen shrub with dark stems and oval, glossy dark green leaves with fine, white margins. Very fragrant, small, deep purple flowers bloom in summer and are followed by dark grey seed capsules in autumn. Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Stevens Island’ is adaptable to various soil types, but grows best in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun and the best leaf colour is in full sun, but it can grow well in partial shade. Resistant to frost, but needs to be sheltered from harsh, drying winter winds. It is tolerant of coastal conditions and ideal for coastal areas. Tolerant of urban pollution. Generally, pest-free. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning, but can be heavily trimmed. Tawhiwhi 'Stevens Island' is a fascinating, resilient, ornamental shrub, suitable for informal, cottage, coastal, and urban gardens. Great a specimen plant. Excellent for hedges and screens. Suitable for growing in containers.
