Rhododendron ‘Tortoise Shell Orange’ thrives in acidic, organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It grows best in dappled or partial shade. Its roots are shallow and poor drainage may lead to a root rot. It is very tolerant of frost, but needs to be sheltered from winter sunlight and drying winds. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require much pruning. Susceptible to many insect and disease problems.
