Wisteria 'Iko Yama Fuli' is an enchanting, deciduous climber, renowned for its spectacular cascades of rich, blue-violet flowers. This cultivar, often referred to as the Blue Umbrella/Roof Espalier tree, is a horticultural masterpiece, perfect for creating an eye-catching display in any garden.

Height of 2 meters, 'Iko Yama Fuli' is ideally suited for espalier training over pergolas, trellises, or arbors, where its pendulous racemes, which can reach up to 20 cm in length, create a stunning, umbrella-like canopy of color in the spring. The flowers emit a subtle, sweet fragrance, adding an additional sensory layer to its display.

This wisteria variety is relatively easy to maintain, requiring regular pruning to maintain shape and promote flowering. It thrives best in full sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil. Hardy and resilient, 'Iko Yama Fuli' is an excellent choice for both novice and experienced gardeners seeking to add a touch of elegance and natural beauty to their outdoor spaces.

Wisteria ‘Iko Yama Fuli’ trained on an umbrella frame makes a stunning, space-efficient feature, ideal for adding height and structure to a garden without the need for walls or large pergolas. This deciduous climber produces graceful cascades of soft lilac to pale violet flowers in late spring, which hang elegantly from the umbrella-shaped framework, creating a striking floral canopy.

This form is particularly well suited to smaller gardens, patios, or formal planting schemes where controlled growth is essential. Positioned in full sun, it will flower more reliably and develop a dense, even canopy. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil and benefits from a sheltered spot to protect emerging buds from late frosts.

An umbrella-trained wisteria requires regular maintenance to keep its shape and encourage flowering. Pruning should be carried out twice yearly, in summer and winter, to manage its vigorous growth and promote the formation of flowering spurs along the framework.

Once established, it becomes a long-lasting focal point, offering seasonal interest with its blooms followed by lush green foliage. Ideal for creating a statement in borders or as a standalone specimen, it combines ornamental beauty with practical structure in a wide range of garden styles.

Wisteria 'Prolific' is a stunning choice for an espalier umbrella, creating a cascading canopy of lavender-blue blooms each spring. Wisteria brachybotrys ‘Golden Dragon’ is a striking and highly ornamental deciduous climber, prized for its luminous foliage and elegant floral display. A cultivated form of the Japanese silky wisteria, it combines the classic charm of wisteria with the added interest of golden-yellow leaves, making it an exceptional choice for decorative garden structures.

In spring, ‘Golden Dragon’ emerges with fresh foliage in vivid shades of yellow, often flushed with light green. This bright colouring persists into early summer, particularly in full sun, before gradually softening to a more lime-green tone as the season progresses. The leaves are pinnate, typically composed of 9–13 smooth, oval leaflets, creating a graceful, cascading effect when trained over pergolas, arches, or walls.

Flowering occurs in late spring to early summer, usually in May or June. Short, compact racemes of pea-like flowers are produced, typically 10–15 cm long. The blooms are a delicate violet-blue to lilac, often with a pale yellow or white marking, and are richly fragrant. Although the flower clusters are shorter than those of Chinese wisteria, they are produced in abundance and stand out beautifully against the golden foliage.

‘Golden Dragon’ is a twining climber with a moderate growth rate, generally reaching 6–8 metres when mature. It requires sturdy support and benefits from regular pruning to encourage flowering and maintain shape. Like other wisterias, it flowers best when grown in full sun and in fertile, well-drained soil.

Hardy throughout most of the UK, Wisteria brachybotrys ‘Golden Dragon’ is well suited to gardens seeking strong visual impact. Its combination of scented flowers, unusual foliage colour, and elegant habit makes it a distinctive and rewarding plant for both traditional and contemporary settings.

The Wisteria 'Golden King' is a striking and unique cultivar of wisteria, renowned for its elegant cascades of fragrant lilac-blue flowers and distinctive golden-yellow foliage. Unlike traditional wisterias, which typically have green leaves, Golden King boasts eye-catching golden-hued foliage that creates a stunning contrast against its violet-blue blossoms. This combination makes it a highly sought-after ornamental climber, perfect for adding a splash of colour and elegance to gardens, trellises, and pergolas.

A vigorous, deciduous climber, Golden King thrives in well-drained soil and requires full sun to produce its most prolific floral display. The flowers, which appear in late spring to early summer, form in long, pendulous racemes, releasing a sweet, intoxicating fragrance that attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. As the seasons progress, the bright yellow foliage gradually deepens to a richer green, adding further visual interest throughout the year.

To encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering, Golden King benefits from regular pruning, ideally twice a year—once in summer and again in winter. This helps to maintain its shape and direct energy into producing more flowers rather than excessive foliage. Like other wisteria varieties, it is best trained against a sturdy support structure, as its twining habit can become heavy over time.

With its dazzling contrast of golden leaves and blue flowers, Wisteria 'Golden King' is a spectacular choice for gardeners looking to introduce both vibrancy and structure to their outdoor spaces. Its fast-growing nature and ability to create a natural, fragrant canopy make it ideal for archways, pergolas, and walls, bringing a touch of timeless elegance to any landscape.
